Scene Locations

The flares can be seen inside the King Pelican Case in the back of Explorer 05, and they are used by Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm in order to distract the T-Rex from the kids.

Substitutes

You can buy nearly accurate 15-minute road flares from various sources (Advance Auto, Ebay, Amazon, etc).

One thing to keep in mind is that newer stock flares differ slightly than the kind use in the film. The flares used in the film had a plastic pull tab on the bottom portion of the flare cap.

Reproduction

Since the flares are generic, most typical road flares can be modified to be screen accurate.

Installation

The flares are installed inside the King Pelican Case in the middle between the MBS-410 Searchlight (left) and the Kidde Fire Extinguisher (right).

It is assumed that there are at least 2 layers of flares in each slot inside the Pelican case (6 in total).
